REFUGEES, IMMIGRANTS
& MIGRANT WORKERS
The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God.
-Leviticus 19:34
An estimated 11 million people live in America without legal documentation. Every year approximately one million foreign-born individuals become US citizens, while many more gain permanent residency status. Workplaces across the country rely on foreign-born labor to tend crops, care for children, and build houses, as well as program software and run hospitals. Who are these people and what brings them to America?
During this week-long Virtual Mission Trip you'll learn about the journey taken by different people to come to the United States. You'll explore the hopes and fears that motivate individuals and families to leave their homeland and travel to a far away place where they may not speak the language or know a single person. You'll discover what our faith tradition has to say about welcoming strangers and loving them as neighbors. Through service projects, games, videos, discussions, interviews, podcasts, readings and more you'll develop a deeper understanding of how we can be good neighbors to others and why that's important to God. Do projects to help build up your community while learning from professionals who work to create a more just world every day, all while being guided by experienced and professional leaders.
