Youth Mission Weekends:
Providence, RI
Collaborative Service Learning over Holiday Weekends
What is it?
Our Youth Mission Weekends (also known as Youth Service Learning Weekends) are open to groups of youth from across New England and beyond. Together, our unique and diverse groups will travel into Greater Providence daily to do service projects focused on addressing urban poverty. Throughout the Providence area, groups will volunteer with partner organizations to serve meals, sort donations and help at homeless shelters.
Participants will stay at the comfortable and rustic Irons Homestead where you will eat and sleep but also get to reflect, play and enjoy the area’s amenities. The group will enjoy an afternoon of cultural immersion and fun time, where everyone can enjoy and appreciate the city. Equally important, we will have discussions where we learn how history has shaped urban poverty in cities. Participants get the chance to both see and learn what poverty in New England looks like today and what can be done to help.
Who can participate?
Youth Mission Weekends are open to youth ages 14+. This is great for groups who are smaller and who don't have the group size to normally do a program like this. Let us do the hard work for you!
Each group must have chaperones who are capable of transporting their youth around the city.

Why volunteer?
People of every tradition and background hear the call to serve others and work for justice - our Youth Mission Weekends are built around that call. Mission work & service learning opportunities allow us to put our beliefs into action, and helps youth to explore their own faith journeys. These holiday weekends will be a time spent living in an intentional community of love and service. You will leave the weekend feeling transformed with new understandings of urban poverty.
What dates can we book with you?
There are two long holiday weekend options to kick off 2024:
-
January 12 - 15: Martin Luther King Jr. Day Weekend
-
February 16 - 19: President's Day Weekend
How much does it cost?
The cost per participant is $375.00 per participant (youth and chaperones). This price includes food, accommodations, coordinated daily logistics, and facilitated learning. Participants will be responsible for arranging transportation to and from Irons Homestead and around Providence.
